Zusammenfassung:The New Europe (Nova Evropa), a hastily sketched, rather pragmatic book with visionary elements, was written in Czech, but first published in English and French translations as a background study for the delegates of the Peace Conference in Paris. Masaryk's original Czech version appeared in Prague in 1920. The English translation of 1918 was reissued in 1972. The New Europe is another of Masaryk's works with a complicated history. Written with interruptions in 1917-18 in Petrograd, Moscow and Kiev (in the weeks of bitter street fighting), in the Siberian Railway, on a ship between Yokohama and Vancouver, and finally in America in the period of Masaryk's most intensive diplomatic activity, the book was Masaryk's summary of the main causes of the First World War and his outline of the post-war reconstruction of Europe.
