Zusammenfassung:eng: The thesis deals with the impact of mass unemployment on social policy in the 'Staendestaat' (corporative state) in Austria from the beginning of its formation in 1933 until the 'Anschluss' 1938. It centres on the legal measures and above all the process of decision within the authoritarian government and the Federal Ministry for Social Administration, containing budgetary, ideological, and legitimatory aspects. In detail unemployment policy in the stricter sense is discussed (unemployment insurance and public job-creation) in which the restrictive measures were by far prevailing. Moreover the dissertation deals with the connection of unemployment to other themes of politics, like social education (the Volunteer Labour Service), settlement policy, repression by selective arrangements of employment according to political attitudes, women's employment and family-related policy. The thesis is based on the one hand on 'objective' sources like laws and statistics, on the other hand on the discussions within the federal government and the files of the Ministry for Social Administration that reflect interests, protests and ideological points of view.
