Zusammenfassung:eng: The presented dissertation deals with the development of the concept of modern, i.e. racial antisemitism. In order to allow an indepth look into this phenomenon this work focusses on the specific continuities and discontinuities in Austria. The first introducing part analyzes the current theories of antisemitism deriving from different scientific fields. The goal of the following part of this paper is to clarify the question how antisemitism transformed into racial antisemitism. For this purpose the historical background as well as the most important theories on 'human races' has been discussed. Dealing with the antisemitic ideology of the First Austrian Republic it has been shown how this modern prejudice transformed into a political concept that found its political practice in the National Socialistic era. One of the main impacts of the Holocaust was a past that could not be overcomed neither by Jewish people nor by Austrians. By analyzing the Jewish as well as the Israelian identity specific consequences of this phenomenon could be clarified. As far as the Second Austrian Republic is concerned, living elements of the past could be shown by evaluating post-fascist antisemitism. A further step in order to strenghten this theory, attitudes and prejudices in Austria between 1960 and 1980 against Jewish people have been summed up. The last part of the dissertation deals with the development since the mid eighties that can be defined as a new racism in Austria as well as in Europe. One of the main questions deriving form this evaluation was whether the appearance of new racism allows an automatic conclusion about a new form and quality of antisemitism as well.
